Cleanse your algorithm
Preparing for the New Moon in Libra October 21, 2025
As we wind down Libra season and prepare for the sun to enter Scorpio, it is an ideal time to cleanse your space and prepare for the thinning of the veil.
Here in central and southern California, mother nature gave us a beautiful cleansing on Monday night as the moon moved into its 3rd quarter phase. Uranus definitely made itself known as a lot of us were jolted awake in the middle of the night to a tornado warning! Let’s carry forward that cleansing momentum as the moon continues to wane until the new moon next Tuesday.
The Dark Moon - A Time for Cleansing
The dark moon is the best time to clear a space, creating a blank canvas to bring in positive energies on the first light of the new moon. Balsamic moons are prime time for cleansing rituals and Friday (October 17) morning’s balsamic moon in Virgo is ideal! We reach the balsamic phase at 4:56 a.m. Pacific Friday morning and the moon will remain in Virgo until 9 p.m. Saturday night. Claim some time on Friday or Saturday to cleanse your house, self, and any items that feel like they have a heaviness on them.
It’s important to remember that intent is the most important factor in any cleansing ritual. You are physically clearing the space through your will. There’s a lot of controversy about mediums to use in cleansing due to cultural appropriation as well as environmental concerns. Personally, I use incense as a clearing tool and often follow up with a magical salt bath, which I will also mop the floors with. Something that provides a smoke, a mix of fire and air, is a great ritual tool to cleanse a space. You can see the smoke and put your intent upon it as it gets into nooks and crannies. Again, I think the medium you use is less important than your intent as you move through the space you are clearing. Use what you easily have available to you.
I like to do a spiral clearing where I start in the middle of my home and spiral outward in a counter clock wise direction for clearing. I will take that spiral through to the edges of my home and to the outside perimeter as well. I tend to do this at night so the neighbors don’t get too alarmed at the woman in black walking around her house waving smoke.
I joke a bit in my headline but I am personally considering everything I need to cleanse and perhaps even banish from my space right now, social media included! The dark moon is a good time to clear your timeline and unfollow accounts that are bringing you stress and overwhelm. We are what we ingest. Take time to consider what your social media habits are bringing into your life and make sure you are curating that and not just accepting what the algorithm is giving you. Use that “not interested” button continually.
You may want to do your cleansing ritual a couple times during the waning balsamic moon. Continue to let go of attachments and heaviness through Monday, clearing the way for the new moon.
New Moon in Libra at 5:25 a.m. Pacific Tuesday, October 21
This is a beautiful new moon coming up. It is in Libra, ruled by our planet of love and beauty Venus. Venus moved into Libra on Monday and will stay there through November 6. She is in her own sign with lots of power to bring love and harmony into our lives. As we roll over into the new moon, envision what you want to bring and perhaps the ancestors and friends who have passed on that you want to visit as the veil thins.
Sun moves into Scorpio October 22
The sun moves into Scorpio at 8:50 p.m. Pacific on Wednesday, October 22. Sun in Scorpio is the time of us honoring our dead. We move into the middle of fall where the land starts to go dormant in preparation for its sleep and rejuvenation during winter. After the sun’s ingress into Scorpio, we will have a sliver of light from that new moon. This is the time I am planning to do a working to fill my space with love and protection.
Manifesting Love on the New Moon
For this ritual, I will start in meditation at my heart and exude love. I’ll begin by calling on Venus to fill my heart and soul with unconditional love. I’ll build that love into a bubble that grows and grows. I’ll envision in my third eye that love wrapping around the spiral, now flowing clockwise, until it encompasses my house, yard, neighborhood, state, country and world, as big as I can get it to go. My intent is to wrap my personal world and the world at large in my love.
Consider your own ritual of love mid-next week and bring in some Venus themed manifestations into your life. With Venus remaining in Libra until November 6, she will continue to be powerful through the full moon on November 5 which will be in the other sign she rules, Taurus.
Mars connecting with Mercury, Jupiter and Saturn
Mars is also powerful right now as it is in rulership in Scorpio, the fixed watery sign. Mars will be overseeing the sun as it moves into Scorpio on Wednesday. This is a powerful emotional Mars that can take action on its deep seated knowing. It is conjoined with Mercury in Scorpio on the new moon. This is powerful to communicate those deep dark truths that are coming up but be cautious of the scorpion stinger in your discussions.
These planets are in a grand trine of water with Jupiter, who is exalted in Cancer, and Saturn, who is back in Pisces. You may want to overshare so use Saturn’s discretion and make sure what you are sharing with others is for the highest good. This is powerful emotional energy that can be wonderfully healing but there’s always the potential for it to show up unskilled where it can turn harmful, often unintentionally.

Love this, Lori. I am very much feeling the urge to clear and reset my space. I like to use rosemary to smudge, as it grows so incredibly fast here in SoCal. :)
