We all have unique relationships with our feelings often related to our personal birth charts and what the elemental make up is of our planetary placements. Today’s full moon in cancer will bring in the feels for everyone as there is no denying this big, full, watery moon. The full moon occurs at 2:27 pm Pacific today (January 13, 2025) at 23° Cancer.
While the emotional floodgates are opened, there is the counterbalance of the sun in practical, earthy Capricorn, giving us a light to ground to and solid ground to stand on so we aren’t washed away in the waves.
The magic of emotions and feelings is the deep, intuitive knowing that comes from allowing them to wash over us, tuning into where these emotions resonate in our own bodies.
This highlights the polarity of water signs, always being opposed by earth signs. We need to allow ourselves to feel and express while keeping ourselves grounded in the process.
Adding depth to this water/earth axis of the full moon is the moving of the moon’s lunar nodes into Pisces and Virgo last Saturday, January 11. The moon’s lunar nodes are the points in the sky where the moon’s orbital path crosses the sun’s path as observed from earth, known as the ecliptic. These points move backwards through the zodiac and change every 18 months.
The moon’s nodes were in Aries and Libra for the last 18 months and this shift to water and earth signs is significant. The north node has moved into Pisces encouraging us to bring in more spiritual knowledge, to feel more, and to become more in tune with our own intuition. This is balanced by the south node now in Virgo, giving us an earthly path to ground and let what no longer serves us pass through.
We want to ground ourselves in the earth to anchor ourselves and then allow ourselves to feel ever more deeply. We bring in the emotion and hold it, grounding what feels to be too much.
During this moment, we are also experiencing Mars moving retrograde from our earthly perspective and it is at 27° Cancer next to this full moon. Mars in retrograde is a time of reviewing and Mars retrograde in Cancer can alert us to the consequences of our actions, or lack of action, through the deluge of our emotions. We are seeing more and more consequences of climate change with the heartbreaking devastation of the Los Angeles fire foremost in our view today. Those of us outside of Los Angeles lend our hearts to hold the grief, fear and uncertainty that is facing our dear neighbors. This is grief on such a large scale that we can only bear it by maintaining our anchor to the earth, our home, and allowing those emotions to pass through us and ground into the deep, rich soil of mother earth.
Interestingly, the moon will appear to travel over Mars today. Hours after the full moon, the moon will cross over Mars in our sky, hiding it from view. This further brings our emotions and intuition to the forefront as the moon demands we give attention to our instincts.
Nurture yourself today and give yourself space to feel the weight of the world. Anchor yourself to the earth and let the earth hold you up as you transmute that pain into love and hold your family, friends, and community in your heart space.
.
To feel is to heal.
So mote it be.
